The Polls function gives you the option to add a single question, multiple-choice poll to your web pages.
Polls Admin Right
Super Admins have the Polls Admin Right by default. This right can also be added to other admins or be made a stand-alone right. See the Content Rights section for more information.
Add a Poll Module to a Page
Select the Polls Content Module and drag and drop it onto the page where you want it to appear. The module will be placed above the area that is shaded in light blue.
Edit the Poll Module
Click on the pie chart icon by the Poll module you want to edit.
The Poll Module Name serves as a title for your poll content module. It will appear to users above the poll question (unless you choose to hide it).
Audience - Specify the Audience who can see this content. You can allow everyone or only certain members to view the information.
- Everyone - Audience does not need to be logged in to view this content.
- Logged In - Members must be logged in to view this content.
- Role- Only members who fit the criteria for a certain role (i.e., Class of 1992, Current Students, or Female alumni) will be able to see this content. Choose from the previously created list of roles in the dual list box and use the arrows to select.
- Deny Access to the following: You may also exclude certain groups from the Audience by using this checkbox. Then, choose from the previously created list of roles and use the arrows to select a group to exclude. For example, you could include Everyone in the Audience except the Class of 2008:
- Select Everyone in the first list box.
- Click the checkbox to Deny Access to the following.
- Select Class of 2008 in the second list box.
- Deny Access to the following: You may also exclude certain groups from the Audience by using this checkbox. Then, choose from the previously created list of roles and use the arrows to select a group to exclude. For example, you could include Everyone in the Audience except the Class of 2008:
Width: The default width of the module is 180 pixels. Enter a larger number to make the module wider or a smaller number to decrease the width.
Current Polls
This grid shows the polls that are currently active (or paused) for this module.
Priority: Determines which poll should appear to users in conjunction with the Audience that has been set.
Question: The question you are asking users in this poll.
Start Date: The date the poll started.
End Date: The date the poll will end.
Is Active: This column will display True for active polls and False for inactive (paused) polls.
Votes: The total number of votes by users for the poll.
Create a New Poll Question
- Click Create New Poll.
- Start Date - Enter the date when the poll will begin appearing to users.
- End Date - Enter the date when the poll will stop appearing to users.
- Priority - Enter a number to determine which poll will display to users (in conjunction with any roles you have applied). Only one poll gets visible to a user for each poll module. Unless the poll is role-based, the poll with priority #1 gets visible to the user.
NOTE: Only one poll gets displayed to a user at a time. Users get to see the highest priority poll for the Audience they fit in. If you have several polls during the same time frame, a role-based poll needs to be a higher priority to show to a user who fits the role. For example, the user gets to see a poll with the Audience of "Everyone" if it is a higher priority than the role-based poll they are also eligible to see.
- Audience: Select who you would like to be able to view the poll. (The Audience for an specific poll can be different than the Audience for the poll module.)
- Poll Question: Enter the question you would like to ask your users.
- Answers: Enter up to ten possible responses for users to choose from the list. You must enter a minimum of two answers.
- Click Save to save the poll you created.
Edit a Poll Question
- Click the checkbox beside a poll.
- Click Edit and make changes to the poll information.
- Click Save to save your changes.
Delete a Poll Question
- Click the checkbox beside a poll.
- Click Delete.
- Click OK in the confirmation box to delete the poll.
Pause/Continue a Poll Question
- Click the checkbox beside a poll.
- De-activate a Poll: Click the Pause/Continue button to pause a poll (make a poll inactive).
- Re-activate a Poll: Click the Pause/Continue button to make a poll active again.
View Results
- Click the checkbox beside a poll.
- Click View Results to see the results of a particular poll.
Expired Poll Questions
This grid shows a list of polls that are past their End Date and are no longer available to users.
